FAQs

What is a Celebrant-led ceremony?

A Celebrant-led ceremony is a celebration of your love and commitment as a couple, but offers no legal contract during the wedding ceremony.

For a ceremony to be legally binding, your ceremony will need to be performed in a licensed venue or Registration Office by a Registrar - or alternative Religious setting.

Where can our wedding ceremony be?

With a Celebrant, your ceremony can be anytime, anywhere. Roll on the freedom! You are not being allocated a time by the Registration Service, or restricted to a licensed space in a venue or a religious building.

Alongside the traditional wedding venues that are licensed, you can opt for more personal and unique ceremony spaces - think family dwellings, your first date cinema, or outdoor spaces like beaches and woodlands.

Just make sure your space has the access and permission to allow for group gatherings!

Can we include religious elements?

Yes! Unlike a Civil wedding ceremony, there are no restrictions on the content of your ceremony, although I will never include material that reflects hatred or prejudice against others.

Religious readings and hymns can be included! However not being a religious person myself, it would not be right for me to perform a prayer. If you have a guest who is happy to do so, that is absolutely fine to incorporate!

Where are you based?

I live in Bude, North Cornwall - so mainly have experience working across a range of beautiful Cornish venues - but I’m happy to travel!

Is travel included in your price?

Travel anywhere within Cornwall and Devon is included in my fee. Anything above this I will charge 50p a mile. This will be confirmed at the time of booking so there are no surprises when it comes to cost.

This travel cost applies to any requested face-to-face meetings as well.

What do you wear?

I am very flexible! And no, that doesn’t mean I’ll be whipping out the Lycra. To be honest, it really depends on your ceremony location and time of year.

A cliffside ceremony calls for a classy jumpsuit or cute blazer and tailored trousers - (I’ve just seen way too many wind-induced dress disasters in my time!)

Sizzling summer beach affairs will usually see me in a tasteful maxi dress. Anything that is professional (so I don’t look like a guest) yet stylish (so I don’t look like your Mum’s third cousin Maureen) with a colour and cut to suit the setting and season of the wedding.

If you have a dress code, colour scheme or theme in mind, let me know and I will accommodate. I am even up for fancy dress given a bit of notice! I have never officiated at a naturist wedding - but again… never say never!

Can we meet in person?

If you would like to, although I don’t include face-to-face meetings or rehearsals as standard in my packages. We’ll have plenty of calls and communication prior to your wedding and it will come together very naturally on the day.

With my own big fat second wedding, we had a lot of guests and moving parts so I was keen to meet our Celebrant face-to-face and do a mini rehearsal at the venue.

If you would like to meet face-to-face, I charge an additional £35 per hour, plus travel costs (if applicable).

Do you perform same-sex weddings?

Absolutely I do! Love is love.

We want to do the legal bit seperately - do you have any advice?

A lot of couples will have a Celebrant-led ceremony in front of friends and family, already legally married.

Your local Council will offer a range of ceremonies - the cheapest being a ‘Statutory’ ceremony - attended by yourselves and two witnesses, which in Cornwall currently costs £46.

Some may wish to legalise their marriage after their big wedding ceremony. Some couples may wish not to ever formalise their relationship through marriage. I can work alongside local Registrars on the day so that your ceremony is legally binding - although this can be a more costly option (and depends on the cooperability of the local Registration Service!)
